Huang Heqi, general manager of Liande Technological Communications System Design Department, said that 5G will soon be commercialized in various countries around the world, and related technology and service applications need mature and complete ecosystems to work together, rather than a company can lead. It is committed to providing solutions for customers to achieve the goal of 5G commerce by 2020.
Small base stations have been discussed for many years, but with the advent of 5G era, in order to meet the needs of high transmission capacity, the construction of small base stations has once again become the focus of attention. However, Huang Heqi shares that while building large-scale base stations, traditional infrastructure builders have also built some high-tech walls. If small base stations want to link with the core network, they will face higher barriers. There are still doubts about the interoperability between base stations. In addition, people generally exclude the construction of base stations near their homes, which will make it difficult to find the location of small base stations. That's why, despite years of small base station initiatives, the business model is still unclear.
On the other hand, the band range established by 3GPP can be divided into sub-6GHz and millimeter-wave bands. There are many factors to consider in the layout of different regions in the early stage of business transformation, so there will be some differences; the choice of band will be tailored to local conditions. Sub-6GHz band is characterized by long transmission distance and wide hive coverage. Therefore, compared with millimeter wave band, the use of sub-6GHz band has less demand for the number of base stations. At the same time, most of the technologies used in Sub-6GHz band can follow those developed in the period of 4G, so the industry chain of radio frequency components related to Sub-6GHz band is relatively mature.
Huang Heqi also mentioned that as the 5G terminal market is very diversified and widely used, from the perspective of technology development, although the sub-6GHz band will be the first priority to enter, it will continue to develop in the millimeter band. At the same time, because the terminal chip is the most familiar market of MediaTek technology, facing the 5G revolution, MediaTek technology will continue to invest in research and development in this direction.
At present, the R&D strength of Liande Technology in 5G technology has also been highly recognized by the International Organization for Standardization. According to the report of IPlytics GmbH, a German Market Research unit, among the top 20 companies that have submitted their contributions to 3GPP 5G standard technology worldwide, the participation rate of the 5G proposal of CDT has increased by nearly four times compared with the period when the 4G standard was formulated, and CDT's participation rate is 43%. The approval rate of 5G proposal is the third highest in the world.
